Congratulations Finlay!

I felt immense pride today when I received the message from my student Finlay's mum that, at the State Jazz Band Competition earlier today, he was recognised as the best pianist in the state and will be given the opportunity to play in a band comprised of the other best high school musicians.

In March, 2018 I began teaching Finlay piano, he has always been such a pleasure to teach. His progress has always been quick, and he always practises hard and dedicates himself to his piano. Just this year, he was asked to join the Jazz Band at his school as the pianist, so he has only been playing in this band since February 2022! This achievement is a testament to his hard work and willingness to take risks and put himself out there even when things seem daunting, unknown or scary.

To witness a student gain important recognition is so incredibly rewarding and just reaffirms to me that dedicating myself to my piano teaching has been the best decision I have ever made. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Finlay and for all of my students for that matter, how music may (or may not) play a part in their lives. I am just happy (and very proud!) that I get to be a part of that incredible journey.

I posted a short video of his performance (sent from his mum) on my instagram. Head over and have a look:
